Some $300,000 available in Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation's next round of funding

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - Fredericton, NB - The Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation (ASCF) will open its third round of competition for funding on November 1, 2009, Stephen Chase, the Foundation's Executive Director, announced today. A total of $300,000 will be awarded for projects beginning in the spring of 2010.

The goal of the Foundation is to help achieve healthy and sustainable wild Atlantic salmon stocks in Atlantic Canada and Quebec through partnerships among volunteer conservation groups, Aboriginal organizations, municipalities, industrial bodies, and others working at the watershed level. Some $50,000 in grants will be awarded in each province, while another $50,000 will support interprovincial initiatives.

"Proposals demonstrating partnership among the eligible groups are very important to the Foundation and will be considered favourably," says Chase. "Partnerships between First Nations, Aboriginal groups and community groups are particularly encouraged."

Recognizing that wild Atlantic salmon and habitat conservation issues and needs vary around the region, the Foundation requires that proposed projects address provincial priorities as outlined in the application criteria (available at www.salmonconservation.ca).

Deadline for the 2010 round of applications is 18 December 2009 at 5:00 p.m. EST. All proposals must be submitted through the ASCF website (www.salmonconservation.ca). More information is available on the website or by contacting Rosalyn Smedley at roz@salmonconservation.ca or 506-455-9900.
